Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

ACT therapy: navigating the seas of life. Sometimes the sea is calm; sometimes it’s rough. The goal isn’t to control the waves, but to build the skills needed to keep moving without being swept away, and while staying on course toward the direction you’ve chosen.

No human being can escape pain. ACT fosters resilience in the face of life’s challenges. This approach helps us recognize the painful thoughts and emotions that can get in the way of living a rich and meaningful life. Rather than getting stuck in a losing battle to get rid of them, ACT teaches us how to make space for these inner experiences without being overwhelmed by them.

ACT also helps clarifying what truly matters to you: your values. Together, we identify practical and realistic strategies to help you move in the direction of your true self. And to do what really matters to you, even when it's hard.

You don’t learn to sail by just talking about the sea. ACT is an experiential therapy. Together in session, we use techniques to promote a more workable relationship to painful private experiences. We’ll regularly explore simple techniques that can help you change your relationship with painful thoughts and emotions. That might mean loosening the grip of fear, or stepping back from unhelpful thoughts. These are usually short practices, though they can be longer when needed. We take a gradual approach, so you can gently integrate these tools into your everyday life.

A meaningful life isn’t one without pain — it’s one where we’re fully present with what truly matters to us.

Indications
ACT is a transdiagnostic approach, meaning it can be used regardless of the specific difficulties you’re facing. It offers great flexibility and allows us to address multiple issues at once by targeting the common underlying processes.
